What Is Double Cleansing And Should You Try It?

The most basic skincare routine is cleansing to remove all the dirt that is sitting on the surface of your skin. Our skin is exposed to pollution, dust, bacteria, sunscreen, makeup and many other particles that will penetrate deep into the pores. This causes dirt built up that will lead to breakouts, acne and other skin problems. Cleansing the skin is vital as it can clean our skin from the dirt and prepare it for the products to be used next. Having said that, cleansing can also be one of the harshest steps in the skincare process and can sometimes strip our skin off. This is where double cleansing is introduced.

What is Double Cleansing and Why Do You Need To Incorporate It In Your Skincare Routine?

Double cleansing is the process of washing your face twice by using two different face cleansers or face washes. This technique will help to remove oils and the build-up of irritants on the skin. Many of us give our face a quick wash after a long day of work but do you know that there are many benefits of double cleansing? Let's dive in on what are the benefits of double cleansing. You may want to switch to doing this after reading the benefits below.

  • When you use two separate products that are designed to target your skin concerns, you are able to maintain the skin's natural oils and hydration levels more effectively. No mater what your skin type is, double cleansing is a tried and trusted way to boost the overall of your skin health.
  • The first cleaning is to soften the dirt and grime on the surface of the skin. This includes makeup, SPF, dead skin and excess sebum. This step is often done with a cleansing oil or balm.
  • The second stage is the double part of the cleansing. This process focusses on cleaning deeper within the skin. It will leave your skin ready to receive the full benefits of other products such as moisturizers and serums. It is important for products to penetrate deeper into the skin.
  • Dirt and pollutants are some of the major contribution to aging process. Besides causing oxidative damage, it also contributes to the breakdown of collagen and the development of wrinkles and sun spots on the face. To avoid these concerns, it is important to double cleanse at least once a day before going to bed.

How To Double Cleanse

Double cleansing is pretty straightforward but knowing how to start can seem a little daunting. You may wonder if you should use the same cleanser twice or a specific product. Well no worries because below is the guide you need to incorporate this method into your daily skincare routine.

Step One - Choose your First Cleanser

The first cleanser you use should be an oil-based or balm formula in order to dissolve makeup, dirt and impurities. The skin and eye areas would need a little extra care as the makeup used on these areas are usually more stubborn and harder to remove and also, these areas are more delicate. Rinse the face with lukewarm water and pour a few drops of the cleanser onto your palm and massage onto the face. Remember to use circular motion for about 30 seconds on the face, all the way to the jawline and around the ears. Wet a Ditoi Disposable Towel for face and wash off the cleanser. You may have to apply more pressure on the T zone and the ridge of the nose to remove any impurities. Take another disposable face towel, rinse and repeat the steps to prevent the dirt from transferring back to yours kin if the first cloth has accumulated the grime.

Step Two - The Second Cleanse

For the second cleanser, it is likely going to be gel or foam type. Keep your face damp and apply the cleanser following the steps above. Once you have applied the cleanser onto the face, massage the face again but less rigorous as the makeup and SPF have been removed during the first cleansing. Next, rinse off with lukewarm water.

Step Three - Pat the skin dry with a disposable daily face towel. Take care not to rub or scrub the face.

Step Four - Moisturize - After double cleansing, always complete the skincare routine with a good moisturizer to lock in the hydration. This will keep your skin feeling smooth, soft and supple.

How Often Should You Double Cleanse Your Face?

Usually double cleansing is done at night because this is the time that the face is likely to be covered with makeup and grime after a long day. You would want to have a clean face when you sleep so that the skin can repair and regenerate overnight. If you have sensitive or dry skin, it is also advisable to stick once a day.
